Muller’s Oom Schalk was wry, softly spoken, and empathetic, with a pause here and a puff at his pipe there. Seated most of the time on his bench, with just a few sips of peach brandy, dressed simply in his khakis, braces, veldskoens and felt hat, pipe in mouth, he told the delightful tales which Bosman made so much his own, clearly describing the unique personalities of the area of Groot Marico and environs.
