Join artist Sara VanDerBeek in the galleries for a conversation on her piece, Blood of the Poet, which was recently acquired by the Art Institute of Chicago. VanDerBeek will discuss the work's relationship to the special exhibition, Lee Miller: Fearless, and share more about her artistic practice. The conversation will be followed by a walkthrough of the exhibition.
about the artist
Sara VanDerBeek was born in Baltimore in 1976 and lives and works in New York. Recent exhibitions of her work include Veiled Presence: The Hidden Mothers and Sara VanDerBeek (Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach, FL) and Women & Museums (Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN).
Sara VanDerBeek has had solo exhibitions at the Baltimore Museum of Art; Fondazione Memmo, Rome; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland; and Whitney Museum, New York. VanDerBeek’s work was included in the inaugural New Visions Triennial for Photography and New Media at the Henie Onstad Art Center, Høvikodden, Norway (2020). She also participated in two-person and group exhibitions at the University of California Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, CA, Guggenheim Museum, New York; Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; Kunsthalle Berlin; Morgan Library and Museum, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and Black Mountain College Museum and Arts Center.
What to Expect
This program will take place in the Photography galleries which can be accessed by stairs or elevator. The Photography galleries are on the lower level beneath the Grand Staircase, most easily accessed from the museum’s Michigan Avenue entrance.
