Ever since their student days in 1970s Paris, where they both studied under Olivier Messiaen, pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard and composer George Benjamin have been close friends. In this special programme featuring two Dutch premieres, they connect that shared history with visionary music: Benjamin's Divisions and Shadowlines, Lacôte's Cahier de filigranes, Obukhov's rarely heard Révélation and Ravel's Gaspard de la nuit. Friendly composer and master pianist in a visionary programme
Aimard is considered a leading advocate of the modern repertoire and Benjamin is one of the most important composers of today. The French composer Thomas Lacôte is the organist of the Église de la Trinité, the church where Messiaen was the resident organist for decades — a historical line that subtly connects this programme. Obukhov appears as a fascinating discovery alongside Ravel: an evening full of refinement, mysticism and unprecedented pianistic intensity.
