Something Different – The Fantasy Trip RPG at Burke-Gilman Brewing
About the event
*Note new location.*
Not *completely* different, but Old School with no relation to D&D. [The Fantasy Trip](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fantasy_Trip) (TFT) has roots in the 70s as the progenitor of GURPS (Generic Universal Role Playing System). We’ll be playing the 2018 TFT Legacy Edition. Basic gameplay is simple, but under the hood it is about as crunchy (i.e. heavy on rules and mechanics) as 5th edition D&D. Just in very different ways.
At its heart TFT is a skill-based, d6 roll-under system that is *not only about combat*. But combat is still a big part: deadly and tactical, using a map with strict movement and actions. As a preview, the basic combat system, [Melee](https://warehouse23.com/products/the-fantasy-trip-melee-pdf), is available to anyone as a free PDF.
This will be an in-person open-table adventure to learn the rules and have fun. Last time the party survived traps and foes (including an ambush by brigands) with wit and cunning rather than martial prowess.
Beginners and experienced players are welcome. I have a broad selection of pre-generated characters to choose from, and a handout to cover the basic rules. Please bring a pencil and 3d6. I’ll have extra dice if needed.
If you want to bring your own Legacy Edition RAW starting character please message me beforehand to avoid misunderstandings. We want cooperative adventurers. Paranoid edge lords and griefers can take the day off.
I will monitor sign-ups and follow up to minimize no-shows. If I cannot reach you I may bump you to the Wait List. If you must cancel please do so promptly. If you are waitlisted please check for updates, especially a few hours before the start time.
[Burke Gilman Brewing](https://www.burkegilmanbrewing.com/home) has seating indoors and out, depending on the weather. Look for the table tent for The Fantasy Trip. They have a good selection of beer and cider with food trucks and restaurants nearby. You can park in the lot just east of the building.
The aim is for a fun, friendly, and welcoming environment regardless of class, race, gender, age, or sexual identity. Real-world negativity is not welcome. Repeat offenders will be asked to leave.
