A demon wears "The Painted Skin" (畫皮) and deceives its way into the heart of a man, in the popular Chinese horror story with a truly gruesome end. This Halloween, the SSO Organ Series unveils a new take on the cautionary tale, in the form of Singaporean organist Phoon Yu’s What the Next-door Neighbour Saw, for pipe organ, pipa and narrator. Accompanied by projections and lighting effects, this hair-raising recital also features the sombre and foreboding music of Mendelssohn, Vierne and Bach.FEATURINGPhoon Yu, organJeremy Wong, pipa*PROGRAMMEMendelssohn Chorale-Andante sostenuto from Organ Sonata No. 6Vierne Fantômes from 24 Pièces de fantaisie, Suite No. 3, Op. 54Phoon Yu A Transi for the Common Man*Vierne Requiem Aeternam, from 24 Pièces de fantaisie, Suite No. 1, Op. 51J.S.
