Winterreise

Acclaimed Singaporean tenor Shaun Lee joins renowned Vietnamese pianist Lưu Đức Anh in a compelling interpretation of Franz Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey), one of the most haunting and profound song cycles in the classical repertoire. Composed in 1827 to 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller, Winterreise takes audiences on an intensely personal journey through love, loss, isolation, and existential despair. Against a desolate winter landscape, a solitary wanderer embarks on a journey that transcends physical distance, confronting the deepest recesses of the human psyche. From the poignant opening strains of Gute Nacht to the chilling, enigmatic conclusion of Der Leiermann, Schubert’s extraordinary marriage of poetry and music reveals the fragility of the human spirit with devastating intimacy. Through Shaun Lee’s expressive vocal artistry and Lưu Đức Anh’s sensitive pianism, this timeless masterpiece promises an evening of profound emotional intensity, inviting audiences into a world where beauty and desolation intertwine, and where the search for meaning continues long after the final note has faded.
