Whether using pre-manufactured mouldings or creating your own, participants will explore how thoughtful, sensitive framing enhances and adds value to artworks while protecting and presenting them professionally. This practical workshop introduces the fundamentals of woodworking by creating your own custom frame. Build confidence from the very beginning as you learn the safe use and maintenance of essential hand tools, developing accuracy, control and an understanding of the role each tool plays in the making process. Through guided exercises, participants will practise measuring, marking out, cutting, mitring, joining and assembly, applying these techniques directly to the construction of a high-quality frame. Along the way, participants will explore traditional woodworking techniques, making a ‘moulding’ from wood strips and shaping them into professional frames. The workshop also considers the creative possibilities of framing, exploring how material choices, proportions, finishes and construction methods can complement and elevate different artworks and objects. By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a professionally crafted frame made by their own hands, together with a solid foundation in woodworking techniques and an appreciation for the role of quality framing in artistic presentation.
