About the event
On September 19, 1,200 people will bring an artwork to life by creating a soundscape together – conceived by a Belarusian-Ukrainian artist collective. Come to the NDSM shipyard and become part of an artwork about empathy, solidarity, and togetherness. What are you going to do? You stand on a temporary stage for 20 to 30 minutes and play a homemade percussion instrument or an instrument you already own, such as a household object that you can use to make sound. Give shape to someone who cannot be there themselves The work revolves around human dignity, empathy, and the fragility of personal freedom. Central to the work are people imprisoned in Belarus for expressing themselves peacefully. During the performance, you wear a simple cardboard mask with the face of one of them. The mask is part of the artwork: you give shape to someone who cannot be present in person. No experience is required; you only need to be present. You do not have to be an artist to create art. When? Participants are invited to arrive between 14:00 and 15:30 to prepare and immerse themselves in the stories of political prisoners. The performance takes place from 16:00 to 16:30.
