Two weeks before Steve Reich's ninetieth birthday, the ZaterdagMatinee pays tribute to this American minimalist composer. The Colin Currie Group is the guest performer, presenting a program packed with classics from Reich's rich oeuvre. This ensemble was founded in 2006 to celebrate Steve Reich's seventieth birthday at the BBC Proms. Since then, the group has been among the best interpreters of his music. Gradual change forms the basis of Reich's compositions. He writes music that shows how a process unfolds during the performance. Small changes become major events.
Dutch premiere
The Colin Currie Group elevates Reich's music to a higher level, and their performances are often a revelation, even for the composer himself. In 2021, the Colin Currie Group performed the world premiere of Reich's Traveler's Prayer at the Matinee, which was composed in part at the request of the ZaterdagMatinee. This afternoon, the ensemble presents the Dutch premiere of In All Your Ways.
