About the event

Director Vladlena Sandu was six when her family moved from Crimea to Grozny, in Chechnya. In 1994, war broke out with Russia. Sandu transformed her war memories into a poetic film full of lyrical, political and surrealist imagery. The filmmaker reminisces about her youth. She wants an answer to the fundamental question: how can the cycle of violence that shapes so many children and is generational be stopped? Special screening A special screening of Memory will take place on Thursday, July 30. Harm Haverman from Save the Children will give an introduction before the film, and the screening will conclude with a post-film discussion between director Vladlena Sandu and film critic Hugo Emmerzael.
