Yayoi Kusama
About the event
On September 11, 2026, a major retrospective of Yayoi Kusama, one of the most influential and innovative artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, opens at the Stedelijk Museum. Following the recent passing of Yayoi Kusama, the upcoming retrospective is a posthumous tribute celebrating the artist's life and work. Diverse disciplines are featured: painting, sculpture, installations, drawings, fashion, collages, and happenings. More than seventy years of her groundbreaking oeuvre
Dots, mirror spaces, and immense installations are inextricably linked to Yayoi Kusama. Her work is known worldwide for her experiments with patterns, self-image, and the concept of 'infinity'.
In her installations, the boundary between the viewer and the infinite blurs: where do you begin, and where does space end? One of the highlights of the exhibition is a brand-new version of one of her iconic installations, in which you get the feeling of dissolving into an infinite universe of patterns and reflections.
