About the event

Once again Yuzo Kawashima looks behind the façade of 'civilised' Japanese life thereby exposing the festering wounds of an ostensibly inconspicuous family. New 4K restoration. Elegant Beast is set almost entirely in the seemingly self-effacing Maeda family’s claustrophobic apartment. However, behind the modest façade lies a microcosm of transactional relationships. Everyone is a voyeur in the cramped space: family patriarch Tokizo oversees everything and everyone around him.
