Arjan Linker plays North Indian ragas on trombone, a melodic form in which improvisation takes center stage. Together with drummer Wouter Kühne, he presents a concert where classical Indian music and rhythm come together. During the Grachtenfestival, this is part of the Music Chapel Relay and the Artist in Residence series 2026. Trombone meets the North Indian raga Arjan Linker takes you into the world of the North Indian raga: an ancient melodic form in which improvisation takes center stage. Starting from a single note, the music slowly unfolds into an intense whole. Each raga has its own character and is linked to a specific time of day. Linker plays this repertoire on the trombone, an instrument that until now had no fixed place within the classical Indian music tradition. Pioneer on the trombone Arjan Linker is regarded as a pioneer of the Indian trombone. After his classical training, he immersed himself in North Indian music for many years. Drummer and percussionist Wouter Kühne has worked with various renowned ensembles and studied both at home and abroad. Together, they present a concert in which classical Indian music, improvisation, and rhythm come together.
