Jewellery shorts: upcycled jewellery
About the event
Transform forgotten jewellery and reclaimed materials into something new in this hands-on workshop for National Recycling Week. Instead of starting from scratch, you’ll explore how existing materials can be pulled apart, reimagined and combined to create a unique necklace, pendant or pair of earrings. Using recycled chains, beads, jewellery components and other reclaimed materials, you'll learn introductory jewellery-making techniques including cutting, filing, hammering, patination and polishing. Along the way, you'll explore composition, texture and creative ways to repurpose existing materials. Have a broken necklace, lone earring or jewellery pieces sitting in a drawer? Bring them along and see what they could become. A selection of materials will also be provided. No previous jewellery-making experience is needed. Full instruction is provided on tools, materials, equipment and safe studio practice. Level: designed for beginners, adults 18+ Wear: comfortable clothing and enclosed shoes Bring: yourself, and any old jewellery pieces you’d like to reinvent We aim to present inclusive and accessible events.
