23rd Street Mural Film Premiere
About the event
Spend an evening discovering the Austin behind the Austin you know. The 23rd Street Mural Project turns the city’s historic first mural into a living documentary archive, using original short films to tell the stories of the people, places and wonderfully strange moments that helped shape the city. On September 10th at AFS Cinema, Season 2 premieres five new films featuring Big Rikke the Guacamole Queen, peyote and Austin counterculture, the People’s Free Clinic, the legendary Continental Club and A Moon Tower Mystery. The screening will be followed by a conversation with project director Mike Woolf and orignal mural artist Kerry Awn. After the premiere, the films become part of the interactive archive at 23rdstreetmural.com. This project is supported in part by an Elevate Grant of Austin Arts, music, culture and entertainment.
