Is this your event?About the event
It was a precarious world in which Bach lived. Wars, disease, infant mortality and social instability were the order of the day. Bach's music forms a strong counterbalance and radiates confidence, inner peace and concentration. Anna Dennis is among the most subtle sopranos of her generation. In 2023, she was honoured with a Royal Philharmonic Society Award. Maarten Engeltjes, founder of PRJCT Amsterdam, enjoys international fame as a countertenor. Together, they can be seen and heard at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Inner peace in an uncertain world
The works in this programme show Bach from his most human and introspective sides. Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut and Ich habe genug, both of which will be performed in their entirety this evening, are among Bach's most beloved and famous cantatas for solo voice. Instrumental sinfonias frame this inner landscape with an almost meditative breath. Everything culminates in the Et in unum Dominum from the Hohe Messe. The agile voice of Anna Dennis, pleasant and glowing, subtly joins the equally radiant and intimate sound of Maarten Engeltjes here.
