Nocturnal Blues Matteo Myderwyk

The night has served as a muse to artists for centuries. Pianist, composer and improviser Matteo Myderwyk adds a chapter to that tradition with his album Nocturnal Blues. The subtle sound poetry of French composers Debussy and Ravel forms a source of inspiration, but so does 'the blues' as an emotion: the quiet, melancholic night hours of our inner world. Come and listen at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Refinement and stillness in nocturnal piano music

The classically trained Myderwyk has an affinity with popular neoclassical piano music. He is conquering a worldwide audience with his tender, playful and, above all, atmospheric piano music. The album Nocturnal Blues is a tribute to his great hero Vincent van Gogh. He wrote that the night seemed ‘more alive and more richly colored’ to him than the day: ‘as if the night is not black, but blue, violet and green.’ The idea that the night has a deeper color and a richer language than the everyday world forms the heart of Myderwyk's album. In this concert, dream, stillness and refinement come together.
