About the event
A performance by Marah Haj Hussein (PS/BE) & Nur Garabli (PS) / Monty in co-production with Frascati Producties. Based on their shared experience with dance training in occupied Palestine, Marah Haj Hussein and Nur Garabli ask the question: what have their bodies actually learned, besides movement? This performance explores how dance technique and militarization are intertwined as strategies of control. Research into a new movement language
Using a specific physicality and movement language, Marah and Nur draw attention to the ambiguous relationship between dance and military training. At the same time, they ask the question: can physical memory be consciously unlearned or forgotten?
In response, they developed a movement language on their own terms. They explore other ways of moving, where their movements intersect in a non-linear choreography.
In relation to whom? مرتاحة؟ unfolds as an archaeological process. The makers dig into their bodies as living material, anchored in the present. From a place of vulnerability, humour and tension, the makers investigate how ingrained movement patterns can be broken.
