UCT Ju-Jitsu 50th Anniversary Celebration

UCT Ju-Jitsu Turns 50! Join us on 29 August 2026 from 10:00-14:00 at UCT Sports Centre 3 as we celebrate 50 years of UCT Ju-Jitsu and the people, traditions and techniques that have shaped the club since its establishment in 1976. Whether you’re a current member, former practitioner, martial arts enthusiast, or simply curious about what happens on the mats, everyone is welcome to come and celebrate this special milestone with us. What to Expect This isn't just a fun birthday party – it’s a celebration of five decades of martial arts, friendship and tradition. The event will feature a special demonstration of Gaven Ryu Ju-Jitsu techniques ranging from Yellow Belt all the way through to Nidan. Some of these techniques have not been publicly demonstrated for many years, making this a particularly special opportunity to see parts of the club’s history brought back onto the mat. We’ll also be joined by special guests from Karate and Judo, highlighting the wider martial arts community and the connections between different disciplines. And, of course, there will be a special belt ceremony, celebrating the dedication, progress and achievements of our practitioners. Expect an afternoon filled with Ju-Jitsu, demonstrations, stories, old friends, new faces and plenty of nostalgia as we look back at where the club has come from – and forward to where it’s going. Food & Drinks We’ve got you covered! The celebration runs through lunchtime, and while we won’t be serving a full sit-down lunch, there will be free food and snacks available throughout the event – so you definitely won’t be going hungry. Drinks also will be catered for and are included in your ticket fee, so just bring yourself and your appetite for some Ju-Jitsu history. Finding Us The celebration will take place at UCT Sports Centre 3 (Hall 3) on Upper Campus. Never been inside the Sports Centre before? Don’t worry! Once you arrive at the Sports Centre complex, look out for signs directing you towards Hall 3 and the UCT Ju-Jitsu 50th Anniversary celebration.
