Scratch-Easy V - Movement Shorts: Parables
About the event
About the Event
Traditional stories in contemporary bodies—a scratch night of movement, dance, physical theatre and play.
A fisherman wrestles with the sea. A fox slips between human and animal. A spider bargains for all the stories in the world. A man, suspended between two tigers, tastes a strawberry.
Drawing from folktales, fables and stories of tradition from across cultures, Movement Shorts: Parables brings together an ensemble of performers exploring these old tales through movement, dance, physical theatre and play.
What happens when stories passed from mouth to mouth enter the body?
Presented by Static Metamorphosis as part of Scratch-Easy, and directed by Eugene Chow, Parables is a collection of short works in development, where ancient stories are taken apart, embodied in contemporary bodies, and given permission to enter the world in their strange manner again.

Static Metamorphosis
Static Metamorphosis is a theatre collective that began re-imagining comic strips onto platform theatre. Comics have this amazing ability to take us on a journey through landscapes, narratives and characters all just in a box, and platform theatre has that exact same capacity on just one platform. Formed by Lecoq-trained actor-director Eugene Chow in 2024, the multi-faceted group of artists is a growing collective that does everything from gestural theatre to dance to sound, bringing their talents onto performance spaces to enhance the theatrical experience of their devised themes.
