Following the success of the grim Taxi Driver (1976), Scorsese surprised critics and audiences with the hyper-stylized New York, New York, a two-and-a-half-hour homage to the golden age of the Big Band, the 1940s. New 4K restoration. Robert De Niro and Liza Minnelli are a married couple – New York musicians trying to hit the big time, as a talented saxophonist and singer respectively. She creates furore, while he remains unrecognised, in spite of his talent – drink, bar fights, marital strife and a baby on the way don’t exactly make things any easier.
