Aussie Icons: Over 100 Years of History
About the event
Aussie Icons is a winemaker tasting celebrating the stalwarts of Australian wine. Meet the makers behind some of Australia's most recognisable and historic wineries; producers who have been crafting wine for more than 150 years. This tasting explores regions and wineries that helped shape Australia's wine culture. More than just a chance to taste great wines, audience can meet the people carrying these legacies forward and hear their stories firsthand. Each winery presents three wines that tell the story of their estate. A current release white and red will showcase the present day, while a specially selected back-vintage wine, chosen by the wineries themselves, will demonstrate the remarkable ageing potential that has made these producers enduring benchmarks of Australian wine. We'll journey through some of Australia's most iconic wine regions, beginning in Victoria with Rutherglen, home to Australia's most celebrated fortified wines. Representing the region is Stanton & Killeen, a winery whose history is woven into the very fabric of Rutherglen and whose wines have helped define the style for generations. The Hunter Valley in central New South Wales is home to some of Australia's oldest wineries, and Mount Pleasant has long been one of its standard bearers, producing benchmark examples of Semillon and Shiraz that have helped define the region. From there we travel to the Yarra Valley, where Yeringberg stands as one of Australia's great family wineries. Renowned for its dedication to elegance, longevity and tradition, Yeringberg represents the enduring spirit of one of Victoria's most celebrated wine regions. In the Barossa Valley, we welcome two producers whose stories are deeply intertwined with the history of Australian wine. Yalumba, Australia's oldest family-owned winery, has been a cornerstone of the Barossa since 1849, while Langmeil continues to champion some of the region's most treasured old-vine vineyards, preserving a vital link to the valley's winemaking heritage. Finally, we head to the Grampians, where Best's Great Western has been crafting distinctive wines since the nineteenth century. Famed for its old vine vineyards and classic Shiraz. Join us for a special 3 hour tasting as we celebrate the regions, wineries and people who have helped shape Australian wine.
