The Beauty of Beaujolais tasting
About the event
It’s time to drink Beaujolais — and to look beyond the idea that Gamay is simply light, juicy, floral and easy. Those things can certainly be part of its charm, but Beaujolais has far more to say. Across its villages and crus, changes in altitude, exposure and soil can take Gamay from fragrant and delicate to savoury, structured, earthy and remarkably age-worthy. Fleurie does not taste like Morgon; Morgon does not taste like Moulin-à-Vent; and Chiroubles, Juliénas, Régnié and Côte de Brouilly each bring something different to the table. This tasting is about exploring those differences. We’ll move through the villages, comparing expressions of Gamay side by side, while also looking beyond Beaujolais to see what the variety can do in Australia. If your idea of Beaujolais begins and ends with something bright, fruity and best served slightly chilled, consider this your invitation to dig a little deeper. There is a lot more going on in these bottles.
