About the event

Presented in collaboration with the Chinese Garden of Friendship, Fujifilm House of Photography and NANLITE, A Night of Colourful Heritage invites photography enthusiasts to explore the garden through portraiture, landscape and food photography. Across a series of guided stations, you’ll discover new ways to capture Chinese heritage, traditional clothing, authentic expressions, beautiful garden landscapes and culturally inspired food. A unique photography experience Bring your camera and prepare to see the Chinese Garden of Friendship in a whole new light. The evening will feature practical workshops, creative photography stations and opportunities to learn from experienced trainers while putting your skills into practice. Capture portraits featuring models in traditional Chinese clothing, experiment with highlights, shadows and black-and-white photography, and learn how colour, composition and lighting can transform your images. You’ll also have the chance to photograph the garden’s distinctive landscapes and explore creative approaches to food photography. What to expect Portrait photography: Learn practical techniques for photographing clothing, expressions and eyes while incorporating the surrounding environment. Black-and-white portraiture: Experiment with genuine expressions, highlights and shadows. Landscape photography: Discover how colour, lenses and composition can help you capture a compelling garden scene. Food photography: Explore lighting, exposure and creative composition techniques for photographing culturally relevant dishes. Traditional Chinese clothing: Photograph models wearing traditional clothing in the evocative garden setting. Creative community: Connect with fellow photography enthusiasts and enjoy a positive, hands-on cultural experience  Before you arrive To help you make the most of the experience, attendees are encouraged to bring: A phone or camera, plus your own SD cards Comfortable shoes suitable for walking around the Garden Wet-weather gear, just in case of rain Please note that tripods are not permitted. A limited number of complimentary Fujifilm loan cameras and equipment will be available on the night. Attendees wishing to borrow equipment must provide their own SD cards. Who is this event for? Whether you’re an emerging photographer, an experienced creative or simply looking to build your confidence behind the camera, this immersive evening offers a rare opportunity to practise your skills in one of Sydney’s most beautiful cultural attractions. The event is designed for creatives looking for a unique photography experience. Whether you're shooting with a professional camera or your phone, we'd love to see what you capture.
