Stereo Girls

France “With its retro outfits and hairstyles, its dreamlike and colorful aesthetic, its 1980s synth-pop, Stereo Girls could have easily fallen into a form of easy nostalgia, but Caroline Deruas Peano manages to imbue this past with the urgency of the present.” Boris Bastide, Le Monde 1992, the South of France. In their final year of high school, Charlotte (Léna Garrel) and Liza (Louiza Aura) are inseparable friends, dreaming of moving to Paris and conquering the capital with the songs they compose (Charlotte on keyboards; Liza, vocals). They also have the usual teenage problems with their parents and with their love lives (Liza has a crush on her gym teacher; Charlotte prefers girls). All is manageable enough until a tragedy befalls Liza. In the midst of her already considerable emotional turmoil, will Charlotte recover from this devastating change? Will she find her friend again in the world of dreams? And can Charlotte realize their Parisian musical dreams alone? A moving drama about friendship, love, and loss.
