About the event

The Sumida River Toro Nagashi (Lantern-Floating Ceremony) is a summer tradition held to comfort the souls of those who lost their lives in the Great Kanto Earthquake and wartime devastation, as well as to pray for peace. Paper lanterns are released from the Sumida River Shinsui Terrace near Azumabashi Bridge, which spans the river between Taito and Sumida wards.
