Baroque and folk together on one stage In the historic hall above De Waag, music resounds that has brought people together for centuries at parties, in taverns, and on dance floors. Marieke van Ransbeeck and Adriaan Lauwers present a program for bagpipes, theorbe, and baroque guitar. French baroque music alternates with traditional melodies from Belgium and Scandinavia, as well as original arrangements. The combination of baroque musette, Swedish and Flemish bagpipes, and plucked instruments brings you close to the dance for which much of this music was originally intended. The musicians Bagpiper Marieke van Ransbeeck moves between folk and early music. She has performed with ensembles such as Concerto Copenhagen and the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. In 2024, she received the Vocatio Laureate Prize. Lutenist and theorbist Adriaan Lauwers has performed on stages such as BOZAR, Philharmonie Luxembourg, and Theater an der Wien.
