Astor Piazzolla and Eduardo Rovira are regarded as the two great pioneers of avant-garde tango. Their creative endeavours and drive for innovation gave rise to contemporary tango. Yet the question remains as to who was actually the first to modernise this genre. This concert brings together the music of Piazzolla’s and Rovira’s groundbreaking octets for the first time. Performed by SONICO, a Brussels-based ensemble that is bringing Rovira’s legacy back to life through research, recordings and international tours. And in doing so, positions his music as the future, not the past.
