Bank clerk Jean tries his luck at the roulette table in Nice where he instantly falls in love with casino veteran Jackie. He becomes increasingly entangled in her web of addiction and loses not only his money, but also his moral compass. Jacques Demy tells this tale of love, obsession and coincidence with sombre realism. The incomparable Jeanne Moreau delivers one of her best performances as the gambling addict who would sell her soul for another spin on the roulette wheel.
