About the Event
Every poem begins with a spark. It can be a feeling, a memory or a fleeting thought. In this hands-on workshop, poet Loh Guan Liang invites teens to follow that spark.
Through solo and group writing tasks, you will experiment with new techniques, explore haiku and free verse, hear about Guan Liang’s own creative journey and leave with a finished piece that is entirely your own. No experience needed, just a willingness to show up, write and discover what only you have to say.
This programme is suitable for teenagers aged 13 to 17.
About the Speaker
For Loh Guan Liang, writing is a way of recording his observations of the world. He is the author of two poetry collections: Transparent Strangers (2012) and Bitter Punch (2016). Bitter Punch was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize in 2018.
Guan Liang has also dabbled with short fiction, personal essays and literary translation. In 2014 he co-translated Art Studio, a Chinese novel by Singapore Cultural Medallion recipient Yeng Pway Ngon.
