Afrovibes Festival

Afrovibes 2026 returns with the 23rd edition of the festival. From dance and theatre to music, performance, spoken word, and contemporary dance by makers from Africa and the African diaspora in the Netherlands, Afrovibes brings together both established names and a new generation of artists who reflect on the world of today with a distinctive perspective. This year, the performances can be seen in Amsterdam from October 1 to 3 at Flemish Cultural Centre De Brakke Grond, on October 3 & 4 at Bijlmer Parktheater (subject to change), and on October 3 & 4 at Framer Framed. The theme of this edition is Soil | Soul For many African makers, land is more than a physical place. It is the soil of ancestors, a source of identity, memory, and cultural heritage. In their performances, they explore the relationship between land, ancestry, and community, and ask questions about what we carry with us from the past and pass on to future generations. Afrovibes Festival presents: From an African perspective, they give artistic form to urgent questions at play worldwide: regarding identity, belonging, history, and the future. Stories and perspectives that often remain underexposed are given a platform through distinctive and thought-provoking performances. In a world where land is increasingly the subject of conflict and power, African makers explore the meaning of land, ancestry, and spiritual connection. In many African worldviews, land is more than territory: it is a source of memories, ancestors, rituals, and identity. What does it mean to be connected to the ground on which you live? And what happens when you are detached from your origins?
