Documentary maker Claire Pijman (Een vrouw als Monique) follows a number of young Dutch artists with ancestral roots in the former Dutch colony Indonesia including Nusantara Beat and fashion studio Guave. Cooperation with Indonesian artists brings their ancestral home closer. Indonesia was a Dutch colony for 350 years. After World War Two and the country’s declaration of independence some 350,000 people emigrated to the Netherlands which is now home to approximately 2,000,000 Dutch people with Indonesian roots.
