About the event

An Oscar for Best Film, seven Oscar nominations, dozens of awards: Moonlight received the highest accolades from both the critics and the audiences. An impressive record for a film whose theme is a far cry from mainstream Hollywood – the coming of age of a young black gay man in a crack-infested neighbourhood in Miami. Moonlight emphasises its characters’ humanity regardless of their background and actions. Chiron’s life is hard: he was bullied as a child, struggles with his sexuality as a teen and has to find his position in one of Miami’s toughest neighbourhoods. He feels safe with crack dealer Juan, who looked after him when he was a child, but who is paradoxically also his addicted mother’s dealer.
