Taiwanese author Chang Yi-Hsum explores themes such as gender, desire, trauma, and identity through her creative writing and literary research, and has long focused on the representation of feminism and LGBTQ+ identity in literature. Through Japanese author Toson Shimazaki's New Life, South Korean author Kim Hee's The Last Person, as well as her own novel Farewell Letter, Chang will trace the development of East Asian literature on sexual trauma and explore how literature responds to the social debates and ethical dilemmas raised by the contemporary #MeToo movement. The discussion will further explore whether literary works and the author's personal character can be viewed separately when creators are implicated in power imbalances or gender-based violence. This event will be conducted in Mandarin and English.
