Azymuth

Azymuth enjoyed international fame in the 70s and 80s, when they pioneered a modern, adventurous fusion of jazz, rock, and funk. In the mid-nineties, just when their momentum seemed to be lost, they received a much-needed boost and recognition from adventurous DJs and beatmakers such as MF Doom, Flying Lotus, and Roni Size, who used their music. In the mid-nineties, they received a much-needed boost and recognition from DJs, musicians, and dancers in London as favorites of the burgeoning Acid Jazz scene, which also helped revitalize the careers of fellow Brazilian musicians Marcos Valle and Joyce. Following the passing of José Roberto Bertrami (keyboards) and Ivan Conti (drums & percussion), the band's sole original member, Alex Malheiros, breathed new life into the group, which has now been together for over 50 years.
