Set in a mythical medieval Mali, Yeelen follows a young sorcerer who flees his powerful father, which leads to an inevitable confrontation between light and darkness. Drawing on Bambara legend, Cissé crafts a visually breathtaking tale of magic, destiny and the cycles of power. Winner of the Jury Prize at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival it is another landmark example of African cinema, blending mythic storytelling with profound spiritual and political resonance. Screen: NFT2.
