A car-bomb murder blows the lid off police corruption in a pestilent border town, resulting in a three-ring circus of a film noir that fizzled on release, but is now seen, on its own seamy merits, to rival Citizen Kane in filmmaking audacity. Using actor/writer/director Orson Welles's 58-page memo of suggested changes as a blueprint, Touch of Evil has been reconstructed to the 110-minute version originally envisioned by the late director. Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh and Marlene Dietrich also star.
