Machine Gun Kelly

Machine Gun Kelly

BFI Southbank, London

About the event

Corman’s psychodrama, with a great jazz score by Kubrick favourite Gerald Fried, was reputedly shot in 10 days on the usual shoestring budget. But the competence by which the film was made is what impresses. Bronson, in his big break, proved he had talents beyond the tough guys he had mostly played, producing a dark portrayal of a vicious thug made vulnerable by a debilitating fear of dying. Screen: NFT2. Screening details: 4K Restoration.
