About the event

Step into the luminous and intimate world of Pierre-Auguste Renoir in this two-day intensive pastel painting course led by artist Robin Lee Hall. Taking inspiration from our exhibition Renoir and Love , which explores the artist’s enduring fascination with affection, companionship, and the human figure, this course offers a rare opportunity to translate close looking into expressive, hands-on practice. Working in the Clore Art Studio, discover the rich, tactile qualities of pastel and its ability to capture softness, light, and the subtleties of human emotion. Across the two days, you will create your own pastel studies while developing your observational skills, deepening your understanding of composition and colour, and gaining insight into the techniques behind Renoir's distinctive approach. Guided by Robin Lee Hall, known for her sensitive and atmospheric figurative work, you will learn techniques and approaches that bring historical inspiration into your own contemporary practice. This course is suitable for all levels of artists. All materials are provided, and your work is yours to take home. Handouts with extra resources will be provided in advance of the course. Suitable for participants aged 18 or over.
