About the event
The course traces the evolution of Japanese animation, addressing historical milestones, aesthetic and narrative changes, the influence of artists and studios such as Ghibli, as well as global expansion and cultural impacts of anime. Class 1 | Origins of animation: from comic books to cartoons. Class 2 | The first Japanese animations: from Momotaro to Hakujaden. Class 3 | Historical overview of Japan and its connections with the animation market: Speed Racer, Astroboy, Akira, Sailor Moon and Knights of the Zodiac. Class 4 | The rise of TV and the advent of video games and the internet: Pokémon and Dragon Ball Z. Class 5 | Anime as an evolving market: streaming platforms. Class 6 | Studio Ghibli and the work of Hayao Miyazaki. About the instructor: Roberta Fernandes is a professor and researcher with a degree in Literature, a postgraduate degree in Screenwriting and a master's degree in Education, Art and History of Culture.
