Gleditschkonferansen 2026
Om arrangementet
Is artistic freedom a privilege for the majority? A rich and diverse cultural life is a prerequisite for freedom of expression and a well-functioning democracy. As the public sphere becomes increasingly fragmented, art and culture can help shape, form and strengthen the community and social structure. The Constitution § 100 protects freedom of expression and artistic freedom. Nevertheless, these rights are under pressure in many parts of the world. At Gleditschkonferansen 2026, we highlight how artistic freedom can be maintained and developed in the face of contemporary challenges. We focus on what “artistic freedom” actually means, and who has the power to define it. Is it the artists themselves, the institutions, the politicians or the public? We ask whether artistic freedom is truly accessible to everyone, or whether in practice it is a privilege for those who already hold power and positions? The discussion goes far beyond the art field – it is about democracy, representation and which stories get a place in the public sphere. Join us as we explore these important questions and discuss how we can preserve and strengthen artistic freedom in a time characterized by polarization, simplification and conflict. The event is free, but you must reserve a ticket so that we know how many people are coming. Simple refreshments during the break from Gleditsch Matbar.
