There are many classics in the film noir genre, but Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity is seen as a timeless noir masterpiece. Together with Raymond Chandler, Wilder adapted James M. Cain’s novel into a thriller packed with paranoia and explosive dialogue. Insurance rep Walter Neff calls at the home of a Mr. Dietrichson. It turns out he’s not home – but his wife, Phyllis, is. She has a little plan, and decides to get Neff to help her realise it, effortlessly winding the upright insurance salesman round her little finger.
