Lee’s film follows young Troy Carmichael as she navigates life with her strong-willed mother, struggling jazz-musician father and four lively brothers in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Blending humour, warmth and heartfelt drama, Lee creates a deeply personal celebration of family, community and memory, inspired by his own childhood (he wrote the screenplay with his sister Joie) and the changing rhythms of Brooklyn.
