Discover Amsterdam South with new eyes and ears from September 16 to 20. More than 40 concerts, musical walks, and special encounters will take you past top musicians, hidden musical histories, remarkable architecture, and stories about the city and its inhabitants. Visit places you wouldn't normally go. From jazz, classical, and tango to global sounds and new music. Streets that clange, ditches that shrink The neighborhood becomes a stage. The street a museum. The house and the boat a concert hall. Behind every street, facade, and front door lies a story. Wander along the visions of Amsterdammers like Berlage, Sarphati, Kropholler, and Sweelinck, and discover historical and cultural connections to Indonesia and the Moluccan community. Musicians, storytellers, and experts take you past female composers and architects, the pioneers of rainbow marriage, and the vanished polders and waterways of South Amsterdam. Intimate house concerts in the homes of South residents, in monumental locations, and even music on the water make this journey of discovery a special listening and viewing experience. Musical discoveries Rediscover jazz pioneer Leo de la Fuente (1902–1944) from the Rivierenbuurt, who brought hot dance to Amsterdam together with dance teacher James Meijer. Meet experimental singer Ileana Melita and pay tribute to singer and cabaret artist Wim Sonneveld. Listen to Moluccan songs, Caribbean boleros, Argentine tango, and music by women who became composers. Featuring Jessica Manuputty, Berlage Saxophone Quartet, ADAM Quartet, Aires Tropicales, Michela Amici, Lestari Scholtes, and Cuarteto del Tango, among others. The festival takes place in the Museum Quarter, Roelof Hartbuurt, Vondelpark, Rivierenbuurt, De Pijp, Marathonbuurt, Irenebuurt, Zuidas, and Buitenveldert.
