A cornucopia of colour: A talk with London Pigment
About the event
Join pigment maker Lucy Mayes for her talk, 'A cornucopia of colour', as she takes you on a journey through her personal collection of pigments that she has created. Discover the fascinating stories behind historical pigment manufacture, alongside personal anecdotes and reflections on the materiality of colour. Lucy will share her knowledge and enthusiasm for these remarkable materials through a 45-minute talk featuring a live paint-making demonstration and a hands-on show-and-tell of her pigment collection, followed by a Q&A. Reorientate your understanding of where colour comes from, journeying from the rare and precious to the overlooked and unexpected. Learn about mineral pigments gathered from mines across England, organic dye-based pigments derived from native and invasive species, esoteric colours created from waste streams in car manufacturing, recycled aluminium engineered into paint, synthetic ultramarine blue formulated from Cornish clay, and much more. Your ticket includes a welcome drink and access to our Members Mixer. Access: For House and Exhibition Members.
