What makes someone “beautiful” in Korea? From K-drama and K-pop to skincare, makeup, and plastic surgery, Korean beauty standards have become globally influential. But where do these ideals come from—and how are they changing? Come join us for a relaxed conversation about:
• Korean beauty ideals — past and present • K-dramas & K-pop — how media shapes beauty trends • Common ideals: clear/luminous skin, youthful appearance, small face, V-line, large-looking eyes, “glass skin,” and natural-looking makeup • Plastic Surgery: Why Is It So Common? • Beauty as social capital: how appearance can affect work, social life, confidence, and self-esteem • How younger Koreans are redefining beauty
