Starring Olivia Colman and Alexander Skarsgård, *Wicker* is a fantasy-comedy that follows a lonely, ostracized fisherwoman in a conservative seaside village who commissions a local basket-maker to weave a husband out of wicker. Come see *Wicker*, at the Boston Common AMC on Saturday, Oct. 24th at 2PM. If anyone joins, I'll be trekking over to High Street Place food court for a meal afterwards.
Synopsis: Set in a conservative, patriarchal medieval seaside town, the story follows an ostracized, hard-bitten fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who has long been mocked by her community and bullied by the influential tailor's wife (Elizabeth Debicki). Tired of her isolation and refusing to conform to the village's rigid social structures, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She commissions a lonely local basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to craft her the perfect husband entirely out of willow.
To everyone's shock, the wicker creation (Alexander Skarsgård) unexpectedly comes to life, possessing a gentle, righteous, and soulful spirit. As a genuine and deeply unconventional romance blooms between the fisherwoman and her giant wicker companion, his kindness and devotion provide her with the love she has always deserved. However, their surreal relationship quickly sparks intense outrage, deep-seated jealousy, and complete chaos among the narrow-minded townspeople. As the community's rigid traditions are fundamentally threatened, the fisherwoman must fight to defend her newfound love and shake up the absurd social conventions of her village.
CONTENT NOTE: This film is rated R with nudity and sex scenes.
