Exhibition 'Dockyards and Galleys'

An exhibition that traces the history of Barcelona’s relationship with the sea from the Catalan–Aragonese expansion across the Mediterranean, transporting visitors to the period of splendour of the galleys and the building of the Drassanes. The exhibition space of Drassanes i galeres features a route set within a scenography shaped like a galley under construction, two new viewpoints overlooking the Galera, and the Roman mausoleum uncovered during the most recent archaeological interventions in the building (2010–2012). The display includes pieces from the collections of the MMB, including works linked to the history of the Drassanes Reials, scale models of the building and various galley models. Audiovisual animations introduce visitors to 13th-century Barcelona and to the major military conflicts in the Mediterranean fought by galleys. These projections are combined with interactive elements that allow visitors to explore the galley-building process and life on board in a dynamic, experiential way. Rowing simulators installed in the exhibition, for example, enable visitors to test their strength and experience first-hand the effort involved in rowing a real galley oar. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Museum ticket offices. Online ticket sales are not available. Museum access via Plaça del Portal de la Pau. Last admission is 1 hour before closing. The individual ticket includes access to the temporary exhibitions and to the pailebot Santa Eulàlia. Temporary exhibitions in the lobby and the Espai Mirador are free of charge.
