Hold on… are you even bringing your emotions into dating???
You’re having a great time. You’re excited, nervous, curious. Then something happens. They say something that lands weird. You notice they’ve gone quiet. You’re not sure if you should say what you’re feeling or play it cool. And before you know it, you’re trying to figure out what they’re thinking instead of actually being with them.
Because datings means meeting people and dealing with feelings, reactions, awkward moments, and all the things that get lost in translation.
We hear a lot about being emotionally intelligent these days. But what does that actually look like when you’re sitting across from someone at a coffee shop or at a bar, trying to get to know them?
Instead of adding more rules about how to date, we’re going to practice being a little bit more emotionally fluent.
There’s a lot we’re supposed to be good at: communicating, listening, understanding feelings, showing empathy, expressing ourselves. But knowing these things in theory and actually being able to do them in the moment are two different things.
And yes, we are going back-to-school to learn about emotional fluency, because why not? 🎓
There are 5 dating classes during this semester, happening every two weeks at The Unusual Coffee Bar in the center of Brussels. The classes form an arc, but each one stands on its own.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Krystal Vargas Olivencia is a Somatic Sex and Relationship Coach, based in Brussels. She creates spaces where adults get to learn about dating from the ground up, with the chance to look at relating and relationships from different perspectives and experiences.
