Design Talk: Taste Beyond the Rules

Join us at our next Bloomfield Design Talk in Barcelona: Taste Beyond the Rules: How experience, emotion, and context shape taste and why human judgment remains essential as AI learns to design.

Before you think, you've already decided.

You see a face, a painting, a poster, and something in you says yes or no. That reaction is taste. It arrives before the rules, before the explanation.

But what happens when we try to teach machines to do the same?

For our next Bloomfield Design Talk, Maria T. Bastos, Founding Member of Taste Labs, and Ana Abreu, Member of Design Staff, will explore how experience, emotion and context shape taste, and why human judgment remains essential as AI learns to design.

We’ll talk about: → How we develop taste through years of exposure → What parts of design are objective, and what parts come down to taste → Why context is still a missing layer in AI-generated design → What machines can and cannot learn from human judgment → Why experience, sensitivity and emotion still matter in the design process
